We see Jesus,
who was made a little lower than the angels
for the suffering of death,
crowned with glory and honour.
Hebrews 2:9

4. The scope of reconciliation.
Now that leads me to the next heading that I would like to leave with you. We have seen the need for reconciliation, we have seen the ministry of reconciliation, very inadiquitly we have seen the basis for reconciliation and now I want to come to what might be called the scope of reconciliation.
What is the scope of reconciliation, what is the extent of this wonderful work according to the purpose that God has in mind for those who are associated with Christ. What is the scope of reconciliation?
Now I am going to make a statement that the brethren might like to weigh. I believe that resurrection is the testimony to heavens complacency and approval of the Lord Jesus Christ. The fact that He is there is heavens answer to the perfection of the man Christ Jesus. I will give you a scripture for it – John 16 verse 10, Of righteousness, because I go to my Father.
But resurrection of the saints, all those who are associated with Christ, is a testimony to heavens approval of the work of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The perfection of the person demands that He should be there but the perfections of the work of Christ demands that we must be there.
And I want to spend a little moment on trying to see the ramifications of the work of reconciliation. I hope I can make it plane to you.
I think we can see it under three headings.
In Colossians 1 v 20 by him to reconcile all things to the God head. Now what are those things? They are inanimate things as well as living things. And in that very section you find that reconciliation reaches the whole of that creation which the Lord Jesus has created. And it includes thrones, dominions, principalities and powers. Inanimate things but they come under the blood and the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The very heavens are unclean in His sight but He is going to purify the heavens.
How great the Lord Jesus is. What it is to ponder this one great enough to take up the whole of the matter of sin on the one hand negatively. But on the other positively to establish a world that is all together for God’s pleasure.
Well you in this section, by Him to reconcile all things to the God head, things on earth and things in heaven.
That is one of the circles.
Then in Ephesians 2 that which we are looking at relative to the Lord Jesus Christ the jew and the gentile, that which is drawn. They both come under this matter of reconciliation. The jew guilty, the gentile guilty they both have to pass out of sight. What’s left? A new order of things according to Christ, those who are brought nigh, those who are made one, one man, one new man, one body who was the vessel adequate to continue the features of Christ. Not only down here but in the coming day.
The second circle of life.
The third circle in the first chapter of Colossians verse 21
v21 You get, “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled. v22 In the body of his flesh through death,”
You and me have been reconciled. I wonder you know weather we really take that to our hearts. Think of it, you and I have been reconciled.
It is not a question of our sins, the forgiveness of our sin, no. It is not a question of our justification, clearness on every side, no. It includes that. It is not the matter of being set free from the bondage of our sins, redemption, it includes that. But now we are reconciled and we will never be more reconciled than you and I are at this moment of time. You and I have been reconciled to God through the death of His son.
You can understand it cant you how the Lord Jesus here was the object of the complacent life of the law of heaven. He on His side was conchace about complacency and was in full and free enjoyment of that life at all times. Now that is exactly the position that you and I are brought into.
Of course if you want the full picture of reconciliation you have to look on to the world to come and the many families in heaven and upon earth and we’ll even go no further than perhaps in a the moment, but at the present time the only company who are reconciled is the church company the august company which you and I belong we are reconciled.
