When
Abraham was old he one day sent his servant to find his family and get a wife
for his son Isaac.
So
the servant took ten of Abraham’s camels and went to Mesopotamia, to the city
of Nahor, Abraham’s brother.
As
he journeyed he came to a well outside the city in the evening. It was the time
of day that the women came with pitchers to draw water.
And
he prayed, “O Lord God of my master Abraham, let it come to pass, that the
damsel to whom I shall say, Let down they pitcher, I pray thee, that I may
drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the
same be she whom Thou hast appointed for They servant Isaac.”
Now
before he had done speaking, Rebekah came out to the well, and she was of Abraham’s
family.
And
the servant went to meet her and said, “Let me, I pray thee, drink a little
water of they pitcher.” And she said, “Drink, my lord:” and she hasted and let
down her pitcher. And she said, “I will draw water for they camels also.”
