THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
God’s Spirit seeks, to fill our lives,
With, - His attractive fruit,
It happens, - as the tender branch,
Draws firmly, - from the Root.
“Abide in Me.”, - the Savior said,
Like branches - in the Vine,
And your life will, - declare to all,
The fact, - that you are Mine.
The Spirit’s fruit, - the first is Love,
The unconditi’nal kind,
That needs not any goodness in,
Its object, - there to find.
The next is Joy, - which grows in Love,
And comes - from deep within,
The heart, - of those who know the Lord,
And have, - been cleansed from sin.
And then comes Peace, - which follows Joy,
And prospers in its wake,
The world, - cannot remove its rest,
Nor from, - its blessing take.
Longsuffering, is next in line,
Of fruit, - the Spirit grows,
And this one, - includes painful times,
Of stepping on one’s toes.
Fruit number five, - is Kindness then,
In spite, - of suffering,
We travel on the path, - once trod,
By Christ, - the lowly King.
Then next to kindness, - goodness springs,
And blesses, - all around,
“How can I help?” - Its motto sounds,
A cheerful, - welcome sound.
It’s Faithfulness, - that’s next in line,
Of fruit, - the Spirit brings,
Into the lives, - of those who walk,
With Christ, - The King of kings.
The next fruit, -such a lovely thing,
Tis Gentleness, - of heart,
It’s sensitive, - to others’ needs,
And comfort, - does impart.
Then, last of all, - but not the least,
The fruit, - called Self-Control,
Where I restrain the things, - I say,
And do, - well, - that’s the goal.
So, that’s the fruit, - the Spirit seeks,
To grow, - within our core,
He starts, - when we are born again,
It lasts, - forevermore.
