Then
five of the kings of Canaan gathered their men together and encamped before
Gibeon.
And
the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua, saying, “Come up to us quickly and save us,
for all the kinds that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against
us.”
The
God said to Joshua, “Fear them not, for I have delivered them into thy hand.”
So Joshua took all the men of war with him and went up by night.
And
Joshua came on them suddenly, and chased the five kings, and killed many of
their men. And God rained hailstones on them, and more died with the hailstones
than those killed by the sword.
Then
Joshua spake to God in that day and said, “Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon;
and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.” And the sun stood still until the
battle was ended.
There
was no day like that before or after it, that God listened to the voice of a
man.
And
Joshua made war a long time with all the kinds of Canaan, until he had taken
the whole land, according to all that God has said to Moses. And Joshua gave
the land for an inheritance to the children of Israel.
