Then the Philistines were angry
with Samson because he had set their cornfields on fire, and they came up
against the men of Judah.
And they said
to the Philistines, “Why are ye come up against us?” And they answered, “To
bind Samson are we come up, to do as he hath done to us.”
So the men of
Judah came to Samson and said, “Knowest thou not that the Philistines are
rulers over us? what is this that thou hast done?” So they bound Samson with
two new cords and brought him to the Philistines.
But Samson
burst the cords that were on his arms. And he found a jawbone of an ass, and he
took it and slew a thousand men of the Philistines with it.
After that
Samson went to Gaza, and the men of Gaza were told that Samson had come. So
they laid wait all night in the gate of the city to kill him.
At midnight
Samson went and took the gate of the city and the two posts, and went away with
them, bar and all. And he put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the
top of a hill.
So Samson
escaped from the men of Gaza
