Once a
year on the great day of atonement, Aaron took from the congregation of the
children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a
burnt offering.
And
Aaron cast lots upon the two goats at the door of the Tabernacle, one lot for
the sin offering and the other for the scapegoat.
Then
he killed the goat of the sin offering that is for the people, and brought his
blood within the vail, and sprinkled it on the mercy seat and before the mercy
seat.
There
was no man in the Tabernacle when he went in to make an atonement in the holy
place until he came out, and had made an atonement for himself and for his
household and for all the people.
Then
Aaron laid his hands on the head of the live goat and confessed over him all
the sins of the children of Israel, and sent it away by the hand of a fit man
into the wilderness.
“And
the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited:
and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.”
